Prof Hou Zhi-jin from Beijing Normal University delivered a lecture about the past, present and future of counselling psychology in China at UIC on 8 October.

Prof Hou said China has neither official criteria for counselling nor for clinical psychology programmes in universities, and how to train counselling and clinical psychologists and how to set standards for these programmes has become a problem.

She suggested standards be established, and more associated majors in university emphasising the ethical code be offered. Practice, such as training and internship, is significant for students, and counselling psychologists should keep the motivation and enthusiasm to help people in need.
