On December 27-28, 2021, Dr. Siutai TSIM, the Director of the Environmental Science Programme, was invited to Macao to attend the "Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Mangrove Wetland andHengqin National Wetland Park Cooperation and Exchange Seminar" hosted by the State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicine,Institute of Chinese Medical Sciences,University of Macau. Also present at the event were 1) Kwok Fei-li of the Municipal Council of Macau; 2) Zhang Hui and Wu Junbao, engineers of the Urban Planning and Construction Bureau, Guangdong-Macao Deep Cooperation Zone, Hengqin; 3) Li Mingyuan, Vice President of the Institute of Chinese Medical Sciences, University of Macau; 4) Tam Fung Yee of Hong Kong Metropolitan University; 5) Zhou Haichao, Distinguished Researcher of the College of Life Sciences and Oceanography of Shenzhen University; Li Shen, Deputy Secretary-General of Shenzhen Mangrove Wetland Conservation Foundation; 6) Tang Benqin of Shunde Polytechnic; 7) Liu Fang of the Zhuhai campus of the Zunyi Medical University; 8) Yang Zhenyu, Senior Ecological Environment Planner of Macao Ecological Environment Conservation Association; and 9) Zhang Jiuling, Consultant of the Association for Promotion of Science and Technology of Macau.

The seminar focused on "Mangrove Wetland in the Greater Bay Area". Six experts from mainland China or abroad were invited to present their academic reports which focused on the current situation and progress of regional ecological research and protection of mangrove wetlands.

Dr. TSIM presented a review on the studies related to mangrove forest and coastline in Zhuhai, and gave his suggestion on the construction of Hengqin National Wetland Park. Ms. Zhang Hui, a graduate from the Environmental Science Programme of UIC, presented an overview of the current status of Hengqin National Wetland Park. Hengqin National Wetland Park is an important component of the wetlands of the Greater Bay Area and a key project jointly promoted by Guangdong Province and Macao. Hengqin National Wetland Park welcomes any cooperation and suggestions from experts in wetland conservation, and invites the experts to work together to promote the development of Hengqin Guangdong-Macao In-depth Cooperation Zone.
