The Environmental Science

In Environmental Science Programme, students have the opportunities to engage in a wide range of cutting-edge research in bioremediation, biodiversity and conservation, microplastics, upcycling and reutilization of waste, biogeochemistry and ecotoxicology to name a few. With Zhuhai being an ecological rich city, students are also benefited by their easy access to many natural habitats such as the Chinese White Dolphin National Nature Reserve, the Provincial Mangrove Nature Reserve, as well as several natural wetlands and wetland parks, for various learning and research activities. The Environmental Science Programme is well equipped with state-of-the-art research facilities and has established networks with other research institutions for various experimental tests.

The Environmental Science Programme of UIC provides its students access to multiple specialized and sophisticated laboratories including the Advanced Instrumental Analysis Laboratory, the Environmental Technology Laboratory, the Environmental Science Research Laboratory, the Chemistry Laboratory, the Biology and Biotechnology Laboratory, the Microorganism Incubation and Fermentation Laboratory, the Aquaculture Laboratory and the Geographic Information System (GIS) Laboratory. These laboratories are equipped with advanced instruments particularly Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS), Inductively Coupled Plasma Spectrometer (ICP), High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), UV-Vis Spectrophotometers and high-tech air quality testing equipment. Specific equipment for biological and ecological studies is also available, for instance, an array of sampling tools, telescope and binoculars, various types of microscopes, electrophoresis apparatus, laminar flow hoods, incubators, and microtome.

The four-year undergraduate programme allows students to gain valuable practical experience, as well as research experience through completion of a final year project under the guidance of experienced professors.
