I currently work for a third-party consulting company and my work includes providing occupational health-related risk assessment, review, testing, improvement strategies and other services to companies. Occupational health is a branch of public health relevant to many people. It has received increasing attention domestically. It’s increasingly implemented locally though there is still room for improvement. It is challenging to work in a third-party consulting firm but the challenges promote continuous learning and growth. I hope to use what I have learnt to benefit more employees and promote the health of more people.

During my time at UIC, I systematically acquired knowledge in environmental science and mastered essential experimental skills, while also improving my proficiency in English listening, speaking, reading, and writing. In these unforgettable and warm four years, the guidance of my teachers and the care of my classmates taught me how to face life more positively, live joyfully, work effectively in teams, and successfully develop my career. It is also worth mentioning that in Dr. TSIM's lecture, I learned for the first time how to present my research through posters, which laid a solid foundation for my academic presentations at international conferences.

Most of the time, I was just very grateful that I chose UIC as my college. UIC provided an environment that full of challenges and opportunities, which maximizes my potential. Our teacher kindly answered all my questions. Innovation, creation, and query are always encouraged in UIC. In these 4 years, every day in campus was fruitful and meaningful, since there are lots of group projects, presentations, and assignments. And nowadays everything I gained in UIC becomes my great treasure and the source of my competitiveness.

I joined the eco-water treatment system managed by the Dongguan government after graduation and was responsible for the preliminary design, review, acceptance, environmental assessment as well as water and soil conservation of large and medium-sized water conservancy projects. I am now seconded to the Dongguan City Water Pollution Control Coordination Office and am looking after related matters in the towns and streets within my jurisdiction. I am glad to contribute to the water pollution control in Dongguan.

I am currently employed at the Department of Ecological Environment, Yangtze Delta Region Institute of Tsinghua University, Zhejiang. My primary focus is on atmospheric environmental consulting services, such as developing plans for achieving ambient air quality standards within specified timeframes and creating emergency response plans for severe pollution events. Through investigating and analyzing the current state of air pollution from multiple perspectives, I provide theoretical support to relevant departments to enhance their efforts in air pollution prevention and control.

Upon graduation, I seized the opportunity presented by green building certification to enter the construction industry, initially tasked with incorporating sustainable building standards throughout the entire building lifecycle. Subsequently, as a quantity surveyor, I focused primarily on cost control, bidding and contract management of construction projects, as well as quantity surveying and final account settlement, and resolving contractual claims.

My four years of study in the Environmental Science program at UIC were among the most unforgettable times of my life. UIC's abundant educational resources and liberal growth environment nurtured students' ability to think critically in practical work, while the Environmental Science program offered numerous opportunities for hands-on experience with advanced instruments. The English-only instruction provided a seamless bridge for pursuing a master's degree abroad. Moreover, the close interaction between students and faculty at UIC is invaluable, with the guidance of professors significantly impacting students' future studies and lives. With over six years of experience in the environmental consulting industry, my knowledge has enabled me to provide sustainability management consulting services to publicly listed companies across various sectors. This includes developing ESG strategies for enterprises of different sizes and enhancing their resilience in the face of global climate change. Additionally, as a government think tank, I have been involved in the formulation of national ESG disclosure standards and various ESG-related research initiatives. UIC, with its diversity and inclusivity, laid a robust foundation for my career development!

My primary role involves establishing corporate management systems, which include but are not limited to quality management systems, environmental safety management systems, and health and safety management systems. I optimize company operations and production processes, providing technical support for the sales division.

I am very passionate about my current job as it allows me to apply my previous work experience in the development and completion of management systems, while also honing my skills in corporate operations management.

Though many years have passed since I left UIC, I remain deeply grateful for all that it taught me.
