UIC unveiled the Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Interdisciplinary Research and Application for Data Science on 13 December 2022 and held the Lab's first academic committee meeting.
The Department of Science and Technology of Guangdong Province in 2022 approved the key laboratory’s establishment. It is the first laboratory that settles in a university of Zhuhai and the highest-standard research platform in Guangdong, gathering top experts from various fields.
It connects with UIC’s highlighted undergraduate majors, including Statistics, Applied Mathematics, and Computer Science and Technology, to conduct scientific research.

Its research will be data-driven with a focus on fundamental and major theoretical issues. By applying interdisciplinary theories and methods, it will conduct research mainly focusing on 1) high dimensional heterogeneous multi-modal data processing and its applications in medical and health big data, 2) data processing based on numerical algebra and optimization and its applications in financial risk management, and 3) cloud-edge collaborative data processing and its applications in smart cities.

Guests from the Department and Zhuhai government attended the ceremony, commenting that the key laboratory plays an important role in promoting Guangdong’s technological competence. UIC’s continuous investment in innovation has yielded significant success.

In the afternoon, a meeting was organised and scholars from the University of Science and Technology of China, Southern University of Science and Technology, and Sun Yat-sen University gave academic presentations to teachers and students.
