Dear all,
You are cordially invited to the following lecture organized by the Computer Science and Technology Programme of DST.
Title: Introduction to Human-Computer Interaction
Speaker: Dr. Li Chen, Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science, HKBU
Time: 2:00-3:00pm, 10 April 2017 (Monday)
Venue: F201
Abstract of the talk:
Human-computer interaction is a topic that has been more recognized important in current computer systems, due to the success of many applications such as Apple that has put a lot of efforts in enhancing user experiences with its products’ user interface designs. As a brief introduction, in this talk, I will cover some major issues related to interaction design and evaluation, especially from users’ perspective to see how the user interfaces could be improved that may better match individual users’ personal characteristics. Examples and design exercises will be offered in this seminar.
About Dr. Li Chen:
Dr. Li Chen obtained her PhD degree in Computer Science at Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland, and Bachelor and Master Degrees in Computer Science at Peking University, China. She is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science at Hong Kong Baptist University. Her research interests are mainly in the areas of human-computer interaction, recommender systems, user modeling, intelligent user interfaces, and data mining applications. She has co-authored more than 60 publications that appear in referred high-impact journals (TOCHI, UMUAI, TIST, TIIS, KNOSYS, Behavior & Information Technology, AI Magazine, and IEEE Intelligent Systems), and key conferences in the areas of data mining (SIGKDD, SDM), artificial intelligence (IJCAI, AAAI), recommender systems (ACM RecSys), user modeling (UMAP), and intelligent user interfaces (IUI, Interact). Some papers received Best Student Paper Award (in UMAP’15 and UM’07), or were nominated for Best Student Paper Award (in UMAP’14) and Best Paper Award (in SDM’13 and IUI’06). She is now ACM senior member, and editorial board member of User Modeling and User-Adapted Interaction Journal (UMUAI) (IF: 3.037). She has also been serving in a number of reputable journals and conferences as guest editor, co-organizer, (senior) PC member and reviewer. Her current h-index is 25, with over 2500 paper citations (according to Google scholar profile).
