About the School of Mathematics, Statistics and Operations Research, Victoria University of Wellington:
We are a vibrant and dynamic School, highly regarded by our current students, Alumni and the international research community.
Our staff achieve highly in their fields, which include mathematics, logic, mathematical physics and statistics. Our international profile consistently attracts national and international grant funding, especially in pure mathematics, and we currently have many Marsden Fund Research grants.
Students benefit from our central location in Wellington City and our proximity to government departments and research institutes. Staff and students have research collaborations with many locally-based organizations such as the New Zealand Police, the Chief Censor, Capital & Coast District Health Board and Toi Whaakari: New Zealand Drama School. Our students appreciate the opportunity to work on real problems generated by these organizations.
The study of Mathematics has a long history at Victoria University of Wellington, having been taught here continuously since Victoria College opened in 1897.
