From 15 to 19 April, the Symposium on Numerical Methods for Radiative Hydrodynamics was jointly held by Beijing Normal University, Zhuhai (BNUZ), UIC, and Beijing Institute of Applied Physics and Computational Mathematics (IAPCM), and was hosted by BNU-UIC Research Centre for Mathematics and Division of Science and Technology of UIC. More than 30 experts, scholars and teachers from IAPCM, Institute of Natural Sciences of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Beijing Normal University (BNU), UIC and others attended the symposium.

The symposium was held at the Muduo Building at BNUZ on 16 April. Vice President (Academic) of UIC and Executive Director of BNU-UIC Research Centre for Mathematics, Prof Huang Huaxiong, presided over the opening ceremony. Prof Huang introduced the Research Centre for Mathematics to the guests and extended his hope in promoting the exchanges, scientific and academic cooperation between BNUZ and UIC.

Vice President of BNUZ Prof Fu Ailan mentioned in her speech that the Research Centre for Mathematics jointly established by BNU and UIC aims at facilitating the interdisciplinary progress of Mathematics. This centre has also promoted the development of the Advanced Institute of Natural Sciences of BNU.

Prof Jiang Song is a researcher at IAPCM and the Director of the 7th expert advisory committee of the Department of Mathematical and Physical Sciences of NSFC. In his speech at the opening ceremony, Jiang Song praised the mathematical research work held at UIC. He pointed out that the symposium was held just at the right time when China is vigorously supporting the development of mathematics.

This symposium aims to provide a platform to share new findings and results, exchange ideas regularly, identify new research themes, and promote collaborations between research institutes and universities. Four special topics about Radiative Hydrodynamics were discussed at the symposium. Eleven scholars, including Prof Jin Shi from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and researcher Lan Ke from IAPCM, gave outstanding academic reports at the symposium.
