The result of the 2025 Mathematical Contest in Modeling (MCM) and Interdisciplinary Contest in Modeling (ICM) was revealed recently. The team comprising second-year students Lv Jingyi and Xiang Yue from the Statistics Programme, and Zhou Zixuan from the Computer Science and Technology Programme, was honoured with the Outstanding Winner award and the AMS Award. This marks the first time BNBU has received these top accolades in the competition.

BNBU participated in the contest with 190 teams, comprising 566 students from 21 programmes, and received one Outstanding award, two Finalist, 42 Honorable Mention, and an AMS Award.
The MCM and ICM have the greatest impact on mathematical modelling. In these contests, teams of up to three students are challenged to analyse, model and solve an open-ended application problem in fields such as mathematics, engineering and economics, and present their solution reports within 96 hours.
This year's contest attracted 27,456 teams from 1,703 colleges and universities in over 20 countries and regions. Among all the competitors, only 43 teams have been recognised with the Outstanding Awards, and only one team for each problem can bring home the AMS Award.
BNBU's Finalist winners included the team of third-year student Zeng Yilong, Zhao Yuzhe of the Financial Mathematics Programme and Chen Ruihan of the Applied Mathematics Programme; and the team of third-year student Lai Yan of the Applied Mathematics Programme, Gong Zihan of the Applied Economics Programme, and Pei Xuerong of the Accounting Programme.
Previously, the same of Zeng, Zhao and Chen earned a national second prize and a provincial first prize in Guangdong in the CUMCM-2024 (Contemporary Undergraduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling).
