Laboratory Environment

The Food Science and Technology Programme has a total of 13 labs, locating in T8-501, 502, 503, 504, 506, 507, 508, 509, 510, 511, 514, 515, and 516. They are all well-equipped with advanced facilities for cell culture, biochemistry and biotechnology, chemical and food analysis, food processing, etc.

The Food Science and Technology labs are the key developing labs in UIC, which consist of three teaching laboratories (Food Processing Laboratory, Food Analysis Laboratory, Chemistry Lab), six research laboratories (Health Food Lab, Laboratory Kitchen, Food Sensory Evaluation Lab, Molecular Biology Lab, Animal Cell Culture Room, Microbiology Lab), four supporting functional laboratories (Walk-in Cooler and Freezer, Weighing room, Sample Retention Room, Water Purification Room).

They are mainly used for laboratories classes and conducting the following important basic researches: The promotion effect of food-related health which is based on molecular biology and cytobiology technology; chemical identification and quality evaluation of bio-active compositions from principal crop products; isolation and identification of chemical constituents from natural products which can be used both as food and medicine.
