Research institutions and Laboratories

1. Computer Science Laboratories

The CST laboratories are composed of two Computer and Software Labs (CSLs), one Data Intelligence Lab (DIL) and one Hardware and Systems Lab (HSL). The CSLs are equipped with more than 80 of the latest computers; these computers are fitted with the latest software for data analysis, AI, machine learning, software engineering, big data software development and various types of data computing. The software includes Python, Matlab, C/C++, JAVA, R, Oracle database, etc. The DIL is equipped with more than 30 GPU and workstations for high performance computing. The HSL equipment includes intelligent teaching robots, related accessories and related software for teaching and research in robotics and multimedia presentation.

2. UIC data storage and management facility

The school has allocated multiple physical servers on the cloud platform in the Information Service Center, which can provide 200 virtual machines for development environments such as big data and cloud computing. At the same time, servers equipped with multiple NVIDIA GPUs can provide a good experimental environment for deep learning and data analysis. All the computers in the laboratory are connected to the server through a high-speed local area network. The data storage and management facilities can accommodate hundreds of powerful servers, and are equipped with a big data computing management platform and related software, which serve as back-end support for data-related courses to meet the needs of teaching and scientific research.

3. Key Laboratory for Artificial Intelligence and Multi-Modal Data Processing of Department of Education of Guangdong Province

Goals and tasks: Guangdong Province’s economic development is at the forefront of the country. It is very important to grasp the development direction of digital “new infrastructure” under the new economic and technological situation. Using multi-modal data to study common problems encountered in the development of artificial intelligence, we can provide both theoretical and technical support for major issues related to society and people's livelihoods in applications of smart cities, smart transportation, smart medical care, and smart education, etc.

The purpose of this laboratory is to actively promote the translational research, and make contributions to the economic and social development.

4. UIC FST – HKBU CSD Joint Research Center for Active Media Computing

With the growing concern about active media and computing in community, we establish a UIC FST – HKBU CST Joint Active Media Research Center, dedicated to conducting related research, development and promotion of related education and training, and providing consulting and R&D services for the industry. In addition, the center has a 3D innovation development laboratory to carry out 3D vision, 3D printing, virtual reality, machine vision sensors and other related research. It is expected that we can have greater contribution in the academic and industry development.
