UIC teachers win prizes at Guangdong Provincial Junior Teaching Competition

Two UIC teachers from the Division of Science and Technology (DST) won prizes at Guangdong Provincial Junior Teaching Competition. Lecturer Ji Yanyan was awarded the second prize, and Assistant Professor Dr He Wenmeng the third prize.

A total of 166 junior teachers from 65 universities and colleges participated in the competition, divided into five groups according to different majors: Arts, Science, Engineering, Medicine, and Ideological and Political Theory. The final included two sessions of classroom teaching and teaching reflection.

Ms Ji was recognised for her course, Introduction to Robotics. It is an elective course for the Computer Science and Technology major, guiding students to design mobile robots through software programming.

She said: “Interdisciplinary discussions have inspired my teaching. In addition, the competition has injected more new elements into my future teaching.”

Dr He’s course, Food Appreciation, won her the prize. It is an elective course for the Food Science and Technology major, covering basic food-related theoretical knowledge. It also involves other cross-filed content, such as food and business, food and culture, food supply chain, etc.

The course was rated as a star course by UIC’s students and recognised as a core model course for teaching quality and reformation by Guangdong Province.
