American Psychological Association (APA)
With more than 134,000 members, the American Psychological Association (APA) is the largest psychological association in the world. Their stated mission is to ‘advance the creation, communication, and application of psychological knowledge to benefit society and improve people’s lives’. Organized into 54 division groups based on shared interests, the APA represents myriad areas of psychological research and application. This site is an excellent starting point for those seeking more detailed sources of information in almost any area of psychological science that currently exists.
Association for Psychological Science (APS)
Established in 1988 and currently boasting over 25,000 members, the Association for Psychological Science (APS) is a nonprofit organization focused on the development and international promotion of psychological science. Their stated mission is to ‘promote, protect, and advance the interests of scientifically oriented psychology in research, application, teaching, and the improvement of human welfare’. While the APA tends to have a clinical/applied orientation, the APS is inclined towards traditional academic research activities in areas such as cognitive psychology, neuropsychology, and biological psychology. Journals produced by the APS include Psychological Science, Current Directions in Psychological Science, Clinical Psychological Science, and Psychological Science in the Public Interest.
Psychonomic Society
The Psychonomic Society is a high-level organization dedicated to the promotion of 'communication of scientific research in psychology and allied sciences’. Founded in 1959, membership is restricted to those individuals possessing doctoral-level degrees who have published significant research in relevant professional journals. The main purpose of this organization is to promote the communication of current information among scientists, but they also serve as an excellent source of information about psychological science for all interested parties. Journals published by the Psychonomic Society include Memory and Cognition, Attention, Perception, and Psychophysics, Behavior Research Methods, and Cognitive, Affective, and Behavioral Neuroscience.
Chinese Psychological Society (CPS)
The Chinese Psychological Society (CPS) was founded in 1921, and is an excellent source of information about current psychological science trends and activities in China. Organized into 15 professional committees covering a wide range of areas in applied and research psychology, CPS’ stated mission is ‘to unite members across [China], promote scientific research, and organize academic activities’. Clearly one of the leading professional psychology organizations in China, associated journals include Acta Psychologica Sinica, and Psychological Science.
China Association for Mental Health (CAMH)
China Association for Mental Health (CAMH) is a national association whose members are the professionals of mental health, psychology, clinical practice, education and allied fields. It is legally registered as a non-governmental organization whose activities involve publicity drives as well as academic conferences. Aa a multi-disciplinary organization, CAMH is an important force to promote the development of mental health science and to improve the mental health status of the people.
Hong Kong Psychological Society (HKPS)
The Hong Kong Psychological Society (HKPS) was founded in 1968. Its principal aims are to encourage the growth of psychological activities in Hong Kong and to promote the development of an appropriate professional environment to faciliate the maintenance of professional standards for psychologists. To this end, the Society maintains a Code of Professional Conduct for the guidance of members and to compel the observance of strict rules of professional conduct as a condition of membership. It also maintains a Register of psychologists who have applied for and granted admission to the Register. The Society is both a learned society and a professional association. It is the only organization of psychologists in Hong Kong which represents all specialties of psychology. The Society is a limited company under guarantee.
Cognitive Science Society (CSS)

The Cognitive Science Society (CSS) is an interdisciplinary organization dedicated to bringing together ‘researchers from many fields who hold a common goal: Understanding the nature of the human mind’. Established in 1959, CSS currently has over 1,500 members, who hail from a wide range of academic disciplines, including psychology, computer science, philosophy, and linguistics. CSS is an excellent source of information for almost any topic relevant to the burgeoning field of cognitive science. Associated journals include Cognitive Science, and Topics in Cognitive Science.
International Association for Cross-Cultural Psychology (IACCP)
The International Association for Cross-Cultural Psychology (IACCP) was founded in 1972, and current has over 800 members residing in more than 65 different countries. IACCP hosts biyearly international conferences, and is associated with a number of professional journals, including the Journal of Cross-Cultural Psychology, and the Cross-Cultural Psychology Bulletin. Dedicated to the scientific study of cross-cultural psychology, IACCP’s stated aims include ‘communication and cooperation among scholars who study the relationships between culture and human behavior; further the advancement of knowledge about psychological functioning of humans in all human societies; and to promote the application of psychological knowledge in all countries’.
The International Association of Applied Psychology (IAAP)
The International Association of Applied Psychology (IAAP) was founded in 1920, and is the oldest extant international association of psychologists. Truly an international organization, IAAP currently has over 1500 members residing in over 80 countries. IAAP is an excellent source of information regarding applied psychology issues relevant to almost any nation on the planet. The IAAP’s stated mission is ‘… to promote the science and practice of applied psychology and to facilitate interaction and communication about applied psychology around the world’. Journals published by IAAP include Applied Psychology: An International Review, and Health and Well-Being.
Encyclopedia of Psychology
The Encyclopedia of Psychology is currently maintained by Dr. William Palya of the Department of Psychology at Jacksonville State University (Alabama), and provides access to almost 2000 psychology-related websites, databases, documents, etc. An excellent source of both general and field-specific psychology information, if you can't find it here, it probably doesn't exist (on the Internet, at least)!

The MRC Psycholinguistic Database (MRC) is hosted by the School of Psychology at The University of Western Australia (http://www.psychology.uwa.edu.au/). The MRC is an interactive database that allows researchers to select specific sets of English words for use in psycholinguistic research. Word lists can be selected on a wide range of criteria, including type of speech, number of letters, meaningfulness, word frequency, word imagability, and many others. An indispensible tool for researchers in the areas of psycholinguistics, cognitive psychology, cognitive science, and any other areas involving the use of word lists as stimuli material.

The University of South Florida Free Association Norms website is in many ways a companion site to the MRC database described elsewhere in this list. The Free Association Norms is an interactive database that provides an extensive list of English words for which free association normative values have been established. Based on more than 6,000 participant responses, these free association norms provide cue-to-target and target-to-cue association strengths (and much more information) making this website a tremendously useful tool for linguistic-oriented psychological science researchers.
