Online information session: Victoria University of Wellington

On April 9, 2021, the Statistic Programme invited Dr. Ivy Liu, the Head of School of Mathematics and Statistics of Victoria University of Wellington, to give an online introduction meeting ofthe Applied Statistics master programme.

Dr. Liu started the meeting by introducing the culture and lifestyle of New Zealand. She then briefly talked about the history, research level and social recognition of Victoria University of Wellington.

Dr. Liu mentioned that it takes three trimesters (March-June, July-October, and November-February) to complete the master degree of Applied Statistics, including course work and practical skills development. Once graduates finish the programme, they may apply PhD studies directly. Also, students can get a working visa to hunt for a job after graduation, and apply for residency if they get a job successfully.

Victoria University of Wellington provides students various support. If students fail to meet the entry requirements for English, they can join the English Proficiency Programme. After passing the final evaluation, they are able to apply the master programme.

Finally, Dr. Liu patiently answered the questions raised by the students about the best time for education, teaching methods at the university and various aspects about living in New Zealand.
