Two UIC undergraduate programmes rated as national first class

The Ministry of Education (MOE) in China recently released a list of first-class undergraduate programmes at the national level. Two UIC undergraduate programmes, the Statistics Programme and the Computer Science and Technology Programme, were included on the list.

The name list is part of MOE's Double Ten Thousand Plan (10,000 first-class undergraduate courses at the national level and 10,000 courses at the provincial level), aiming to improve the quality of higher education at the undergraduate level.

UIC has been dedicated to cultivating world-competitive students with high-quality, interdisciplinary courses taught by professional teachers.

Statistics Programme

Founded by Prof Fang Kaitai, the Statistics Programme has consistently conformed to the trend of the times and the development need of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

It offers a series of interdisciplinary elective courses to students across the fields of data science, financial technology, artificial intelligence and more, enabling them to tackle complicated challenges.

The Statistics Programme is also powered by well-recognised teachers, led by Prof Pan Jianxin and Prof Fang Kaitai.

For seven consecutive years, Prof Fang has been listed as one of the Highly Cited Chinese Researchers by Elsevier.

Top universities such as Peking University and the Renmin University of China adopt textbooks written by this programme's teachers.

Before being endorsed at the national level, it has become prominent not only in Zhuhai, Guangdong but globally. World well-known universities and companies have admitted many graduates from the programme.

In 2016, the MOE approved the programme to admit MPhil and PhD in Probability and Mathematical Statistics Programme. In 2021, it was approved by Hong Kong Baptist University for independent admission of MPhil and PhD.

Computer Science and Technology Programme

UIC's Computer Science and Technology Programme has also been shining with glory.

Its curriculum strengthens students' research and innovation abilities while solidifying their fundamental knowledge with international eyesight, coherent with industrial development and national strategies.

Moreover, students are respected with customised training plans, and every student is trained on a global platform.

It also sets up various laboratories to encourage students to learn from practice, including labs for artificial intelligence, multi-model data processing and more. The Guangdong government funds some labs.

The programme is fuelled by its well-qualified teachers as well, led by Prof Jia Weijia, an IEEE Fellow, and Prof Wang Qingguo, a member of the Academy of Science of South Africa.

The teaching team has achieved academic success at the national and provincial levels, participating in projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the Guangdong government.

Graduates from the programme are welcomed and enrolled by top elite universities and world-famous enterprises.
