ENVS Year-4 Student Participated in the Top Academic Conference on Ornithology in China

The 18th Chinese Ornithological Congress was held at Guangxi University from October 23 to 27, 2025. With the theme of "Welcoming the New Century of Chinese Ornithological Research", the congress brought together over a thousand scholars from more than a hundred universities and research institutions at home and abroad. XU Jiayi, a Year-4 student from Environmental Science Programme (ENVS) at Beijing Normal-Hong Kong Baptist University (BNBU), along with WANG Xiuzhi and LIANG Lingzi, graduate students of Dr. Siu-tai TSIM from ENVS, Department of Life Sciences, BNBU, participated in this conference. They actively exchanged and learned with experts and scholars from both home and abroad.

As the highest academic event in the field of ornithology in China, the conference held 6 plenary presentations, 28 special reports, and 7 roundtable discussions, and over 430 abstracts were included and 112 poster presentations were displayed. LIANG Lingzi delivered a special oral presentation titled " Comparative analysis of ecological corridor planning efficacy for urban birds: a methodological study on ecological source identification using MSPA, InVEST, and MaxEnt models" at the conference. XU Jiayi presented a research poster titled "The Impact of Ecological Restoration and Management Projects on the Bird Diversity of Hengqin National Wetland Park", focusing on Hengqin National Wetland Park, and analyzing the changes in birds in the wetland based on the preferences of bird habitats and the diet of birds.

XU Jiayi signed up for the conference with the recommendation of Dr. Siu-tai TSIM. As an undergraduate student, this was her first time attending such a top-level academic conference. She was filled with excitement. Besides engaging in academic exchanges with the poster presenters on site, she also actively listened to many plenary and special reports, gaining a lot of knowledge. She was very glad that ENVS provided her with this rare learning opportunity. This conference experience greatly broadens her horizons and has a profound impact on her future research path.

By continuously inviting undergraduate students to participate in such academic conferences for several consecutive years, ENVS has demonstrates its emphasis and commitment to cultivating students' research capabilities and innovative thinking in the field of environmental science.
