The Beijing Normal University-Hong Kong Baptist University United International College (UIC) has been selected as one of the “Green Schools in Guangdong Province” in 2024 (see https://mp.weixin.qq.com/s/18NcMMkVftEvdigDAkHqjA for details).
The Environmental Science program at UIC has provided full support in the process of establishing a green school, especially by undertaking extensive efforts in practicing environmental protection and implementing the concept of sustainable development, making significant contributions to the successful establishment of the green school.
The work carried out by the Environmental Science Department in relation to the creation of green schools is as follows:
1. Carrying out ecological civilization infiltration teaching, which involves courses such as “Resources and Environment”, “Ecological Conservation”, “Biodiversity Conservation”, “Biodiversity and Experimentation”, “Carbon Technology and Renewable Energy”, “Climate Change and Society - Present and Future”, “Green Business Management”, “Green City Construction-Challenges and Countermeasures”, etc.
2. To conduct comprehensive practices of ecological civilization education, such as conducting campus biodiversity surveys and related science publicity and exhibitions, etc.

3. To organize thematic teaching and research activities on ecological civilization education, such as “The First Alumni Research Forum on Environmental Science in 2021”, “Seminar on Urban Biodiversity and Data Science and Technology in 2023” and “International Biodiversity Day and Nature Education and Ecological Economy Forum of Guangdong- Hong Kong - Macao Greater Bay Area”, etc.

4. Organize Earth Day publicity activities.

5. Students and faculty participate in environmental monitoring, such as the creation of a student internship program for campus water quality surveys, which is jointly managed by the UIC Property Management Office and the Environmental Science program.

6. Faculty and students actively participated in various research activities and achieved fruitful results, published academic papers in important international journals and received a number of patents and awards.
