On November 25, 2024, researcher Fan Dixia from the College of Engineering of Westlake University was invited to the campus of UIC to give a lecture entitled “Soaring in the Ocean - Imagining Future Bionic Submersibles” to the undergraduate students of Environmental Science and graduate students of the Master's Degree Program in Sustainable Energy Technology and Management. The lecture was hosted by Associate Professor SiuTai TSIM, Head of the Environmental Science Program.
Researcher Fan Dixia Delivers Academic Presentation
"Xigu-1" Bionic Submersible
Researcher Fan Dixia explained in detail the design concept and technical realization of “Xigu I” bionic submersible, and introduced the latest research results of bionics in ocean engineering, especially the innovative design and application of bionic submersibles. He also shared his team's latest research progress in the design and control of air-sea amphibious bionic robots. These technologies not only have potential for a wide range of engineering applications, but also provide a new perspective for exploring the mysteries of nature and the deep sea.
During the subsequent Q&A session, teachers and students had an in-depth exchange with Researcher Fan Dixia, and had a lively discussion on the technical details of the bionic submersible, the idea of building it, and the direction of its future development. Researcher Fan's detailed answers and professional insights brought new ideas and inspiration to everyone.
Associate Professor SiuTai TSIM Presents UIC Commemorative Gift to Researcher Fan Dixia
The lecture demonstrated the marvelous combination of nature and engineering, deepened UIC teachers' and students' understanding of bionics and bionic submersibles, expanded their academic horizons in this cutting-edge field, promoted academic exchanges in the field of bionic science and technology and ocean engineering, and provided UIC teachers and students with a valuable opportunity to learn about cutting-edge science and technology and future trends. Associate Professor SiuTai TSIM stated that more experts and scholars from various fields will be invited in the future to provide faculty and students with more opportunities for learning and exchange, inspiring students to achieve breakthroughs in scientific research and engineering innovation.
