On October 17, 2024, at the invitation of the Zhuhai Hengqin Guangdong-Macao Deep Cooperation Zone City Planning and Construction Bureau, Dr. WANG Zijian, the programme director of our Master of Science in Sustainable Energy Technology and Management (SETM), together with our students, went to Hengqin Tianmu Hotel to participate in the opening ceremony of the Hengqin "QinTan Star" Carbon Inclusive Mini Program.
"Carbon Inclusion" is an innovative voluntary emission reduction mechanism. It cleverly uses "Internet + Big Data + Carbon Finance" to build a set of citizen carbon emission reduction records, quantifies and assigns value to the energy-saving and carbon-reducing behaviors of small and micro enterprises, community families, and individuals, and actively mobilizes all sectors of society to join the national emission reduction action. This mini program can be logged in through WeChat. Citizens can get points by taking photos of their daily carbon emission reduction behaviors online, and then use the points to exchange for various exquisite gifts for free. It is an important innovative attempt at carbon reduction.
At the opening ceremony, Dr. WANG Zijian (first from left in the photo) represented UIC and, together with representatives from all walks of life, read the "Hengqin Proposal for Practicing Green and Low-Carbon Concepts". He hoped that the education sector could work closely with government agencies, business entities, public welfare platforms, and other sectors of society. Using the Zhuhai Hengqin Guangdong-Macao Deep Cooperation Zone as a pilot, they aim to build a national-level Carbon Inclusive Demonstration Zone and explore new models for national carbon reduction.
